Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been very careful with his words when discussing Tony Romo's performance, which is so disappointing. The owner is aware of how much heat Romo has been taking over shaky performances against the Giants and Broncos, so he has gone out of his way not to say anything remotely negative.

But on his weekly radio show Friday on "The Fan" in Dallas, Jones said he would like to see more of the old Romo. Actually here's exactly what he said via ESPNDallas.com's Tim MacMahon:

"I think, as much as anything, we all would like to see him maybe him when it's not a desperation juncture in the game maybe improvise more than we have," said Jones. "I think that's probably what, if you look at his skills and what he can do really well, possibly a little more of that would be good. It's going to be a fine line between protecting the ball and having some of that [improvisation] that Romo can bring. He's still got all that you want."

That's as close as Jones will come to criticizing Romo at this point in the season. He doesn't want to say anything that reflects a loss of confidence in his franchise quarterback. During his weekly visit with local reporters Thursday, Romo discussed rainbows, Lucky Charms and Jack Nicklaus. Here's the one thing he said that suggests he's planning to return to some of his improv skills:

"You're always going to want to utilize everything that you're capable of doing," Romo said yesterday. "You'd be selling yourself short if you didn't utilize all the tools at your disposal that you may have as an individual or a unit. For me, individually, it's about stay the course. Continue to get better. Don't waver off this path and jump the gun because of one game."

As Romo might say, perhaps there's something better at the end of the rainbow.
