There's no one who isn't shaken up by the tragedy that took place Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., and around the NFL today there will be tributes to the victims. The New York Giants are one of the teams that plays closest to where the shootings took place, and they are wearing "S.H.E.S." decals on their helmets.

Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is honoring one victim in particular -- six-year-old Jack Pinto, whose name is on Cruz's gloves and cleats for today's game in Atlanta. Cruz told ESPN's Josina Anderson that he got in touch with the Pinto family to offer condolences after he'd heard Jack had been a fan of his. The family told Cruz that they were considering burying Jack in a Cruz jersey.

This is a first for me. Never before have I cried while writing an NFC East blog post. And in a press box, no less. Good for Cruz for trying to help, and I guess I just hope he was able to give those parents even one brief, faint flicker of relief from the pain they're feeling.
