Will Witherspoon be ready for Monday?

In one day, linebacker Will Witherspoon gained three wins. But in being traded from the awful Rams to the "we're not sure" Eagles, Witherspoon will have to move from weak-side to middle linebacker. Defensive coordinator Sean McDermott has been giving Witherspoon a crash course since Tuesday's trade.

"I don't really say it's that difficult; the defenses are fairly similar, there's a lot of similar communication," Witherspoon told reporters in Philly on Thursday. "But at the same time, changing positions makes it a little bit different. I think I'll get a good grasp of things by the time I get to the game."

It speaks to the Eagles' desperation at middle linebacker that the slightly banged up Witherspoon would step right into the starting lineup. The alternative would be Jeremiah Trotter and he looked really slow against the Raiders on Sunday.

Omar Gaither will undergo season-ending Lisfranc surgery on his left foot and there's a good chance he'll never play another game for the Eagles. Gaither would've been an unrestricted free agent this offseason and he was hoping to play his way back into good standing in the league after being demoted in '08.
