I could see it coming from a mile away, which happens to be where the press box is located at new Cowboys Stadium. Coach Wade Phillips would be so thrilled with a win over the Falcons that he would give his players the day off on Monday.
Phillips refers to these special days as "Victory Mondays," which have been around since the under-appreciated Chan Gailey era. But by Monday morning, Phillips was already being criticized on local radio for his benevolence. It was just another sign that the most player-friendly coach of the Super Bowl era was taking it easy on his guys.
I think it's much ado about nothing. My former colleague Jacques Taylor of The Dallas Morning News says it absolutely sends the wrong message to the team.
