The Giants got a huge shot in the arm Thursday when defensive tackle Chris Canty (calf) and linebacker Michael Boley (knee) both returned to practice. Canty hasn't practiced since suffering a calf strain in the week leading up to the Week 2 game in Dallas. Boley injured his knee in the Week 4 game against the Chiefs and had to undergo surgery.
Reeling from a rare two-game losing streak, the Giants' defense needed some good news. If Canty and Boley can go Sunday, it would give the Giants a much-needed boost against the Eagles. Boley was brought in to cover running backs such as Brian Westbrook in space. But with Westbrook still suffering from a concussion, Boley may be trying to keep up with LeSean McCoy. In other injury news, running back Ahmad Bradshaw revealed to reporters that he has a cracked bone in his right foot and that he'll likely continue playing on it unless there's another setback. He spent Thursday's practice on an exercise bike. I just received the Tom Coughlin news conference transcript courtesy of the Giants, so let's take a look:
On Bradshaw's injury: "Bradshaw went and had a second opinion," said Coughlin. "Dr. [Robert] Anderson in Charlotte confirmed that the present plan of attack was the way to go."
On how much Chris Canty practiced: Did some; did some. He and Michael Boley did the individual part of practice. And obviously what they want to do is assess where they are the next morning, see if they can do a little bit more, when can they do a little bit more. It is a good sign.
On whether Eagles right tackle Winston Justice is a different player two seasons after he was humiliated by Osi Umenyiora: "Oh yeah, sure. All young guys go through something like that. He has grown, he is experienced, and he has played more. He has got more savvy. He has studied. The experience factor alone -- you see the growth of the player.
Did Antonio Pierce practice? Yes.
