Just when you thought you'd seen everything at Valley Ranch, owner Jerry Jones announced this morning that he played catch with quarterback Tony Romo before practice Wednesday. That's right, he caught several passes from Romo in trying to determine how much zip he could put on the ball. STATS Inc. had Jerry with two drops, but said he caught the ball well in traffic.
The NFC Beast reported Wednesday that Romo was lobbying coaches to let him play Sunday against the Rams. On his weekly radio appearance on the "Dunham and Miller Show," Jones said of Romo, "He very well could play."
As I wrote Wednesday, Romo truly believes he can play through the pain. But the Cowboys are concerned about him getting hit again and having to miss even more time. The ESPN satellite truck is parked at Valley Ranch and Ed Werder is standing by. The players are talking to reporters right now, but I'd be shocked if Romo makes an appearance. Meanwhile, Brad Johnson continues to take all the reps with the first team.
We'll see if Jones does a better job of concentrating on the ball this afternoon. He has a tendency to cradle the ball instead of catching it with his hands. But he went to Arkansas as a guard in the 1960s, so we'll give him some grace.
