OXNARD, Calif. -- As if HBO didn't have enough storylines for its upcoming "Hard Knocks" series, Jessica Simpson's father, Joe, said the ubiquitous country singer/actress will soon arrive at training camp. And as long as head coach Wade Phillips agrees to cut his daily news conference short, the "Built Ford Tough" main stage is an excellent venue for an impromptu performance of the new song Jessica wrote for Tony Romo, "You're My Sunday."
I think it's wonderful that Simpson has dedicated the Sabbath to her boyfriend, and at this rate, he may also receive a couple of weekdays. Because I was in the middle of an extended conversation with Dave Campo, I missed the opportunity to visit with Joe, who left his youth minister's job to manage his famous daughters.
During the 2006 season, Romo left Joe a ticket to the Cowboys-Cardinals game in Glendale, Ariz.. The rest is history. I'm planning to visit with Romo on Monday, so I'll see what I can find out.
In football news, Romo looked sharp during Sunday's practice. I've seen him throw a lot of passes over the years, but he appears to have more velocity on the ball than ever. Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has changed a couple of things mechanically to allow Romo to be more accurate.
Romo and T.O. had a strong day Sunday. Monday the Cowboys have a session at 11:30 a.m. ET and 6 p.m. With the three-hour time difference from Bristol, look for some NFC East headlines right before the first practice.
