Bob Brookover and Jim Salisbury of the Philadelphia Inquirer have a neat story on how the Rays and Phillies once pursued DeSean Jackson as a baseball prospect in high school. Jackson's first love was football, but scouts were convinced that he could become a star in baseball.
"The fastest amateur base runner I've seen in 10 years scouting for Cleveland and Philadelphia," said the Phillies' Southern California scout, Tim Kissner. "I saw him run a 3.9 down the line and steal a base. Faster than Jimmy [Rollins] and Shane [Victorino]."
Jackson also reveals that his father lived with Roberto Clemente at one point. The Eagles rookie attended the same high school as Phillies second baseman Chase Utley and Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn. In case you've been too focused on football to notice, the World Series begins at 8:35 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
