In case you missed it, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported Sunday that people were telling him that former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan wants to wait to see if the Cowboys have an opening at head coach. There have already been reports that Shanahan has been in talks with the Redskins about becoming their head coach.
If Glazer's report is accurate, it could make for an awkward situation. Redskins owner Dan Snyder thinks of Jerry Jones as a mentor and the two have become good friends. Fortunately for Snyder, the Cowboys are coming off a big win over the Saints.
What some folks don't realize is that Jones wants Wade Phillips to continue as head coach. But he's made it clear that the Cowboys need to have some playoff success for that to happen.
I think Shanahan will eventually take the Redskins job. And that's why Snyder should write DeMarcus Ware and Tony Romo a thank you note for the way they played in New Orleans.
