If you watched the NBC broadcast of Saturday night's Cowboys-Eagles wild-card playoff matchup, you know that Cris Collinsworth delivered the nugget that Cowboys inside linebacker Keith Brooking had gone after a teammate in practice this season when this teammate was apparently mouthing too much. Brooking, who's had a remarkable influence on this locker room in his first season with the club, joined us on 103.3 ESPN's "Galloway and Company" on Tuesday afternoon and I asked him about the alleged fight.
Brooking"I will not clarify that," Brooking said. "My name's Bennett and I ain't in it."
But it's obvious something took place because Brooking seemed stunned that the story was leaked to the media. The way Collinsworth tells it, Brooking became angry with a certain cornerback on the team and he purposely backpedaled into him during a play in practice.
"That's crazy," he said. "I don't know how [Collinsworth] found that out."
Through the course of the day, I'll have some of Brooking's comments on his head coach, Wade Phillips, and the Vikings' offense. Brooking spent a lot of years with the Falcons and even made it to the Super Bowl at one point, but he told us Tuesday that this is the best locker room he's ever been associated with. Players I've talked to swear by Brooking and his uncommon work ethic. He's the guy who breaks down the team huddle before games. In fact, running back Tashard Choice compared Brooking to actor/wrestler The Rock on Monday.
No matter who you talk to, they all agree that Brooking has had a profound effect on this Cowboys team.
