ASHBURN, Va. -- I've only been here a few hours and the Redskins are already making cuts. I thought former Raiders safety Stuart Schweigert might have a chance to challenge for a starting safety spot, but he didn't help himself with a poor performance in the Hall of Fame game. I watched him get burned for at least one touchdown pass, and my gut tells me that head coach Jim Zorn saw even more.
You're actually doing a veteran like that a favor when you let him go early as opposed to waiting until one of the last cuts. Zorn probably figured that Schweigert was what some coaches call a "progress stopper." He stood in the way of players like Chris Horton getting better. Have I already said something about that kid?
I thought he was pretty impressive Sunday night.
OK, I've been up early/late banging out a Brett Favre column. Look for that later in the day. If you're planning to be around Redskins Park today, stop by and say hello.
