Skins taking it slow in free agency
By Dan Graziano
With some NFL teams, inviting an unrestricted free agent for a visit is almost a guarantee that the player will sign a contract. But apparently Redskins general manager Bruce Allen and coach Mike Shanahan don't operate that way.
Though the Skins hosted at least three players Tuesday, none of them left with a contract in hand. Washington needs a running back to complement Clinton Portis -- especially since they just released Ladell Betts and Marcus Mason. Perhaps they're waiting to find one in the upcoming draft.
"Fast" Willie Parker was in town Tuesday, but the former Steelers back is still on the street. I'm planning to talk to folks at Redskins Park later today, so I'll keep you posted.
