I just waited in line for 45 minutes on a conference call to ask Mel Kiper Jr. a couple of Beast-related questions. We never actually spoke because 27 reporters were still in front of me, but he covered one topic that caught my interest.
The Giants, Cowboys and Eagles are all searching for another receiver. The Redskins drafted two in the second round in '08 and they still don't know what they have. Anyway, Kiper was asked about North Carolina receiver Hakeem Nicks. I think it's a name to keep in mind because he keeps showing up on mock drafts as a player the Giants would be interested in. But he's a guy who could slip to the Cowboys in the second round if he runs a subpar 40-yard dash at the combine. Here's Kiper's take:
"I've compared him to Michael Irvin. He's a natural pass-receiver with great hands. He's tough and he's a great route-runner. If his 40s are good enough, he's a first-round pick. If they're not, he'll probably be a second-round pick."
I know for a fact that the Giants really like this guy. He has great size like Plaxico Burress and there's a thought that he could make an immediate impact.
