NEW YORK -- Once the Broncos went with Knowshon Moreno (what??), you knew the Redskins were going to take former Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo. We've talked about the Redskins' passion for this guy for months. And some mock drafts had Orakpo going as high as No. 5 to the Cleveland Browns.
Obviously the Jets wanted Mark Sanchez more than the Redskins did. Now, maybe we actually see if Jason Campbell can be the long-term answer at quarterback. In Orakpo, you get an absolute beast coming off the edge. I watched him in person at least six times over the past three years, and he could take over football games. With Albert Haynesworth playing inside, there's no reason in the world why Orakpo can't have 10 sacks his rookie season. I know he wanted to go before this point, but it's actually a great fit for Washington.
As we've mentioned before, some scouts are scared of University of Texas players because they've been pampered so much in Austin. But from the start, Vinny Cerrato and his staff loved Orakpo's game. And the No. 2 overall pick Jason Smith has told me before that Orakpo was by far the best defensive end he ever faced.
