How do you prepare for Dwight Freeney?
By Dan Graziano
Indianapolis Colts All-Pro defensive end Dwight Freeney was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his two sacks and late forced fumble to clinch a win against the Houston Texans on Monday. He'll be going against Philadelphia Eagles left tackle Jason Peters, who somehow ended up on the NFC Pro Bowl team last season.
Some of you have asked for the name of the scout-teamer who is playing the role of Freeney this week for the Eagles, and I have the answer. That would be 6-foot-6, 287-pound Pannel Egboh, the former Stanford standout who hails from the Dallas area (Mesquite). On Thursday, Eagles left guard Todd Herremans told me that Egboh had done an outstanding job trying to simulate Freeney's devastating spin moves.
"Freeney's 6-0 and Pannel's 6-6, so it's hard to whip around quite as fast," said Herremans. "But Pannel's giving us a good look."
Pannel helped lead Stanford to a stunning upset of USC during his junior season when he had 10 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a blocked kick in a 24-23 win.
