Dez Bryant breaks his ankle

By Matt Mosley

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant broke his right ankle during a fourth-quarter kickoff return against the Indianapolis Colts, ESPNDallas.com's Todd Archer has confirmed. Fox first reported the news of Bryant's fracture late in the Cowboys' 38-35 overtime win over the Colts.

Bryant has been an explosive player for the Cowboys this season, but he's only had one catch for 14 yards in the past two games. He had a long kickoff return called back in Sunday's game because of a holding penalty. Quarterback Jon Kitna developed a nice rapport with Bryant once Jason Garrett took over as interim coach.

The rookie wide receiver has played through various injuries this season, but he'll likely be placed on injured reserve at this point. But even with the injury to Bryant, the Cowboys have to be thrilled with Garrett's third win in four games as head coach. They picked off Peyton Manning four times in Sunday's game and rookie linebacker Sean Lee's second interception put the Cowboys in position to win the game in overtime.

The ESPNDallas.com crew is in the locker room as we speak, so I'm sure we'll have more details soon.
