Jon Kitna is on a roll
By Dan Graziano
There's a decent chance that we'll never see Jon Kitna throw another NFL pass following this season, but if that's the case, he's going out with a bang. Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com says that Kitna has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the league over the past four games under interim coach Jason Garrett. And Kitna says winning three of his past four games has altered his state of mind:
"This league makes you feel good when you win," Kitna said. "It's like a drug sometimes I guess. I never did drugs but that's what they say. It feels good. You're definitely never as sore or never as tired."
Archer reports that Kitna's 69.3 completion percentage over the past four games is fourth-best in the league. Garrett has helped put him in good situations because of his willingness to run the ball. But when the Cowboys need Kitna to make a play, he still has the arm strength to get it done.
The quarterback told me recently that elbow tendinitis in his throwing arm hampered him for a five-year stretch from 2003-08. He never mentioned it to anyone because he feared doctors might suggest surgery. Now, he appears to be performing as well as he has at any point in his career. Kitna's put up big numbers in the past, but he always threw too many interceptions. Right now, he's doing a nice job of protecting the ball.
