Former Texas Tech standout Brandon Williams tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while covering a punt Friday and will miss the rest of the season. Williams played defensive end at Tech, but he's been making the transition to outside linebacker. He wasn't going to start, but he'd shown enough flashes that he may have been involved in some of the the team's subpackages.
Williams, a fourth-round pick, will join third-round choice Robert Brewster in sitting out the year with an injury. Brewster tore a pectoral muscle while lifting during the offseason.
"This kid had a chance to play some plays," said coach Wade Phillips during his news conference Saturday. "I guess he'll just have to do it next year."
