EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- That pregame celebration had to be killing Tom Coughlin. He's admitted to being sick of all the looking back, but he was forced to wait in the locker room while Michael Strahan stood at the base of a huge replica of the Lombardi Trophy at midfield.
The Redskins ran out right after Strahan introduced the "Super Bowl champion New York Giants". It was a nice moment, but I guarantee you that the Redskins were using it as motivation.
Kate Mara, the great-granddaughter of Giants founder Tim Mara and Art Rooney, sang the national anthem before the game. Fans erupted when she was introduced.
Something to look for early in the game: The Giants spent much of training camp working on the deep ball. Early on, Redskins safety LaRon Landry looks a lot like a guy who hasn't played a down in the preseason.
On the first deep throw to Plaxico Burress, Landry didn't recognize that cornerback Carlos Rogers had released the receiver. Landry's a huge hitter, but he's looked bad in coverage so far. And perhaps this Shawn Springs injury is more devastating to the Redskins than we realized.
So far, I'm thinking it was a good idea to give Burress a new contract.
