Fantasy week: Michael Vick's value

By Dan Graziano

If you are a regular reader of our fantasy football content (and if you're not, then why not?), you know that Matthew Berry was touting Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick as the No. 1 pick in fantasy drafts. Vick didn't perform to that level, of course, and he did miss three games because of injury. But Vick's potential to rack up big passing and rushing numbers in the Eagles' high-octane offense makes him an intriguing pick every year. In this roundtable video, our fantasy experts debate the value of Vick in this year's drafts.

Matthew attributes Vick's drop-off in performance in 2011 to "pressure, and DeSean Jackson phoning in at least half the season." I'd go further and suggest that Jeremy Maclin wasn't 100 percent last season, either, and that Vick's receivers should be much better this season. Of course, we also must factor in the loss of left tackle Jason Peters, and what that might mean for Vick's health, protection and productivity.

I spent big for Vick in a two-quarterback auction league last year and won the league mainly because (a) I was able to buy low on Matt Ryan early in the season as my QB2, and (b) I had Calvin Johnson. But when Vick played, he produced reliable fantasy numbers. His rushing yards bring an element few other quarterbacks offer, and while he obviously won't and shouldn't be picked as high as he was last year, I'd pounce at the right price.
