Hakeem Nicks is hurt again

By Dan Graziano

A season that just can't seem to get going for New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks hit another bump in the road when Nicks showed up Wednesday on the Giants' injury report with a knee injury. Nicks did not practice Wednesday, and his status for Sunday's game against the Bengals in Cincinnati is in question.

Nicks
Nicks missed most of the offseason and training camp due to a broken bone in his foot, but he played the first two games of the season and was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his 10-catch, 199-yard performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2. After that game, however, he missed the next three with continued foot and knee problems, and in the four games he's played since he's caught a total of 13 passes for 153 yards.

Nicks' injury situation is likely part of the reason the Giants' offense is in a slump, as quarterback Eli Manning seems to be locking in on wide receiver Victor Cruz almost exclusively due to a lack of other reliable options. The Giants have a bye next week, and so if they give Nicks this week off they can keep him off his feet for two whole weeks in the hopes of getting him ready for the stretch drive. They have decided to do just that with injured safety Kenny Phillips, who had a setback with his own knee injury after looking as though he'd be ready to play this past Sunday.
