Power Rankings: No. 15 Dallas Cowboys
By Todd Archer
A weekly examination of the Cowboys’ ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 20 | Last Week: 13 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
With their 17-16 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Cowboys dropped two spots in the eyes of the ESPN.com voters this week from No. 13 to No. 15, but the news is not all bad, right?
The Cowboys are still the top team in the NFC East, which might be viewed as a backhanded compliment considering the New York Giants, Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles also lost in Week 2. The Cowboys are the seventh-best team in the NFC, according to the rankings.
The Cowboys ranked as high as No. 14 (Dan Graziano) and as low as No. 20 (Ashley Fox, Kevin Seifert) in voting. What’s funny is that the Chiefs made a big move with their one-point home victory over a team that barely ranks in the top half of the league, jumping from No. 20 to No. 13. So maybe the Cowboys aren’t that bad after all?
The Cowboys will get a chance to prove it on the field. Over the next seven weeks, the only team currently ahead of them in the voting is No. 2 Denver, which visits AT&T Stadium on Oct. 6. Sunday’s foe, the St. Louis Rams, checks in at No. 17.
