Thanks for your patience while I was making the trip home from our nation's capital this afternoon. There's a lot of stuff out there on Redskins tight end Chris Cooley's right ankle injury so let's take a quick look around. Here's our latest report on ESPN.com.

Earlier in the day, coach Jim Zorn didn't sound hopeful that Cooley would return this season, but a doctor's second opinion has apparently opened the door for the Pro Bowl tight end to be back in the lineup a month from now. Cooley, a prolific blogger, had this to way on his popular Twitter account:

"[Three] pins go in the ankle tomorrow. Hopefully be back in 4 weeks. Thanks for all the support."

The Washington Post is confirming that the injury may not be as serious as the Skins previously believed. When I caught up with quarterback Jason Campbell after the game, he'd assumed that Cooley was out for the season. The Redskins said that Cooley will undergo surgery later this week and they'll have a better timetable after that.

But for at least the next three games, new playcaller Sherm Lewis will have to get to know the Redskins' other tight ends. Former second-round draft pick Fred Davis actually played pretty well in Cooley's absence Monday and Campbell has a lot of confidence in Todd Yoder.

We'll keep you posted throughout the evening.
