Giants to re-sign RB Da'Rel Scott
By Dan Graziano
With running back David Wilson's status for Thursday's game in doubt, the New York Giants are planning to bring back running back Da'Rel Scott, whom they cut last week. A source with knowledge of the situation said the Giants planned to announce Scott's return Tuesday, once they found a way to clear a roster spot for him.
Scott was cut last week to make room for offensive lineman Dallas Reynolds, who was then cut a few days later to make room on the roster for new linebacker Jon Beason. Scott's departure left Wilson, Brandon Jacobs and Michael Cox as the only halfbacks on the Giants' roster, and when Wilson left Sunday's game after the first quarter, it left the Giants thin at the position. Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Wilson would have to go through a full medical evaluation before being cleared to play Thursday night against the Bears in Chicago, and the chance that he's not cleared in time has led the Giants to bring back Scott, who obviously knows the plays and can be plugged right back into the lineup in Wilson's place.
How the Giants will make room for Scott is unknown, but there are several possibilities, including placing someone like tight end Adrien Robinson or center David Baas on injured reserve. They could cut Jacobs, too, but it seems as though they have had chances and good reason to do that and do not want to.
