What's going on with DeSean Jackson?
By Todd Archer
Could DeSean Jackson's time with the Philadelphia Eagles be running out?
PhillyMag.com's Tim McManus investigated the possibility in this piece, and spoke to someone in Jackson's camp.
"We're in the dark like everyone else," a source close to Jackson said in the piece. "Thought he would at least be worthy of some kind of communication."
Of note was a quote from Eagles coach Chip Kelly from last April when he contacted veterans like Brent Celek, Michael Vick, Jason Peters and Todd Herremans after the Eagles took players at their positions.
"I'm really big on open communication," Kelly said then. "I don't want there to be gray areas. I think sometimes there are gray areas because there's a lack of communication between people."
It took some time for Jackson to buy into Kelly's system, but he ended up flourishing and looks like he could be a perfect piece in that offense. Last season, he started every game and finished with 82 catches for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns and played in the Pro Bowl.
This offseason, the Eagles committed to Riley Cooper on a five-year deal and re-signed Jeremy Maclin to a one-year deal. There have been multiple reports the Eagles would look to deal Jackson, and McManus quoted an agent who believed Jackson wouldn't be back in Philadelphia in 2014.
The Eagles have had a productive offseason so far, filling holes in free agency and re-signing some of their cornerstone players. Could the Jackson story become bigger as the season grows close?
