A look at a player who gave his team a significant boost in Week 5.
And it's not as if coach Andy Reid took it easy on McCoy, who had 23 touches in the game. It was his 29-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that gave the Eagles a lot of momentum in the game. He didn't take a lot of clean shots, in part, because of his ability to dart away from traffic. McCoy is tied for seventh in the NFC with 28 receptions. Frank Gore is the only running back in the league who has more receptions (33) than McCoy.
McCoy is also 12th in the league in rushing. It's as if he's turning into Brian Westbrook before our eyes. And that's no coincidence when you consider how much time they spent together as roommates in training camp and often on the road. McCoy also has told me that former Eagles running back Duce Staley has contributed to his maturity as a player.
McCoy won immense respect in his own locker room by playing with that broken rib. It's something his teammates won't soon forget and he's quickly become one of the most indispensable players for the Eagles. McCoy won't be able to accept his "High Energy" award in person this week, but it's obviously something that will change his life.
Against the 49ers, he accounted for 138 total yards and a touchdown. He and Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw are both playing at a Pro Bowl level right now.
