Teams around the league are allowed to hold a special workout for draft prospects who grew up within a 50-mile radius of each practice facility. Fortunately for the Cowboys, North Texas produces an unbelievable amount of talent at the high school level.
On Monday, the Cowboys hosted Dallas Day at Valley Ranch. And you can almost guarantee that owner Jerry Jones will select at least one of the players from that workout in this month's draft (see Jacques Reeves and Patrick Crayton). Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com secured the list of prospects, which was heavy on former SMU players. (The Mustangs are fortunate enough to have a heavy-hitting alum working in the Cowboys' scouting department.)
Here are some of the names: Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (SMU), running back Shawnbrey McNeal (SMU), linebacker Chase Kennemer (SMU) and defensive back Bryan McCann (SMU), safety Jordan Pugh (Texas A&M), J.D. Walton (Baylor), cornerback Brian Jackson (DeSot0), defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger (Oklahoma) and Adron Tennell (Oklahoma).
