Quincy Carter loses another job

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

Former Cowboys quarterback Quincy Carter has apparently blown his fifth (or is it sixth?) chance to play "professional" football. According to reports, Carter was a no-show for Saturday's Abilene Ruff Riders game in the Indoor Football League.

But at least he placed a phone call to the coach -- at 3 p.m. on the day of the game. The Ruff Riders' coaches frantically prepared an alternate game plan, which hinged on a player who hadn't seen time at quarterback in nine seasons. And they won!

I absolutely loved this line from the report in the Abilene newspaper: "Riders general manager Barney Welch said at halftime of Saturday's game that he didn't know Carter's whereabouts but that the quarterback no longer was with the team."

Seems like a pretty good move on Welch's part. The team's other quarterback, David Bowie, had been released the previous Sunday after throwing several interceptions -- and refusing to perform a free concert after the game.

OK, join me in over at SportsNation for a live chat. Immediately!
