PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Eagles surrendered the momentum they had with an early touchdown after Giants quarterback Eli Manning shook off an interception and led the Giants on two touchdown drives.
I can't for the life of me figure out why safety Brian Dawkins was matched up one-on-one with Plaxico Burress on the Giants' first touchdown. Jim Johnson brought a blitz from the right side and Manning made him pay.
The Giants gashed the Eagles for 66 yards rushing in the first quarter, which set up the play-action pass. It looks like the Eagles linebackers are overpursuing every time the Giants run counter plays. We have 13:52 left in the first half, and the Eagles already look worn out on defense.
Eagles safety Quintin Mikell is getting exposed against the run. And on the 10-yard pass to Amani Toomer that set up the Giants' second touchdown, the Eagles were never set. Weakside linebacker Omar Gaither was turned around shouting something at the secondary as the ball was snapped.
It all adds up to a 17-7 lead for the Giants. And the only reason the Eagles have scored was because of the Manning interception. The Eagles only ran five plays in the first quarter. DeSean Jackson and Brian Westbrook combined for 12 yards on the ground. And that's all the Eagles managed in the quarter. Donovan McNabb is 0 of 5 for -- wait for it -- zero yards.
