Redskins running back Clinton Portis has been named the NFC's offensive player of the month. He has rushed for 120 yards or more in five consecutive games. And that's the second time in his NFL career that he's accomplished that feat. Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson is the only other running back in the history of the league to have two stretches like that.

If Portis rushes for more than 120 yards against the Steelers on Monday, he'll tie an NFL record held by Earl Campbell (1980) and Eric Dickerson (1984). For the month, Portis had 101 carries for 575 yards and four touchdowns. The next best total in the NFC was DeAngelo Williams with 324 yards.

Portis is the first Redskins running back to win NFC Offensive Player of the Month since Terry Allen in 1996. At this point, Portis has to be the odds-on favorite to win league's MVP award.
