NFC East: Steve Owens
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders stopped by Giants Stadium on Sunday as part of a promotion for Alltel. The former Lions great was kind enough to spend a few minutes on the phone with the NFC East blog discussing Sunday's game and his career after football. I'll save most of what we talked about for a later date, but here's what he had to say about Sunday's Giants-Cowboys game:
"Dallas has a decision to make," Sanders said. "Who are they gonna be? They have a lot of expectations, but this season could get away from them. The Giants look well on their way to repeating."
So far in today's game, the Cowboys don't have any answers for Eli Manning and the Giants' passing game. Fifth-round draft pick Orlando Scandrick has looked overwhelmed by Giants wide receiver Steve Smith in the slot. The Cowboys had one drive interrupted when quarterback Brad Johnson overthrew Terrell Owens on a quick slant pattern. Cornerback Corey Webster had an easy interception, which led to the Giants' second touchdown.
Things are about to get ugly for the Cowboys. The Brooks Bollinger watch is officially on. It should come as no surprise that Johnson gives this team absolutely no shot of sustaining a long drive.
