It's now official in Detroit, which has announced the acquisition of defensive tackle Corey Williams from Cleveland. The Lions gave up a 5th-round pick in 2010 and will receive a 7th-round pick from the Browns to complete the deal.

Speaking to reporters in Detroit, Williams expressed relief that he'll be returning to a 4-3 scheme after struggling as a defensive end in the Browns' 3-4 defense. He referred to the 4-3 as his "bread and butter" and added: "I feel like I can show my ability a lot more in a 4-3."

Lions general manger Martin Mayhew said he was especially intrigued by Williams' interior pass-rushing skills, which Mayhew said was "an area where I thought we really struggled last year." I agree 100 percent and think this move was a relatively risk-less way to address that hole.

Williams no doubt believes the same thing and seemed to embody a newly optimistic franchise that hopes to challenge the division's elite.

"I ain't never sacked Brett [Favre]," Williams said of his former Green Bay teammate. "I'm looking forward to getting my first sack on him."

Meanwhile, the Lions also re-signed offensive lineman Jon Jansen to a 1-year contract extension.
