In a matter of days, it appears Chicago has turned over both safety positions. Three days after the Bears drafted Florida safety Major Wright, Carolina safety Chris Harris tweeted that he will be traded to the Bears.

Yes, that Chris Harris -- the same guy Chicago traded away before the 2007 season. It was a move the Bears clearly regretted as they scrambled for options over the past three years.

Typically we don’t base reports on Twitter alone. But Harris told Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune: "It's not official, but I will be with the Bears soon."

Since leaving the Bears, Harris has started 44 of a possible 48 games. He has five interceptions and 12 forced fumbles. He turns 28 in August.

Stranger things have happened, and we have a long way to go until training camp. But there appears to be a pretty good chance the Bears will have two new starting safeties when the 2010 season opens. More on this if and when it becomes official. If you wish, we can talk about it on our upcoming chat in at 2 p.m. ET.

*Update: The trade was finalized Tuesday afternoon. The Bears will send linebacker Jamar Williams to Carolina in exchange for Harris. Expect a formal announcement shortly.
