In the six weeks since the regular season concluded, we've had significant turnover among the NFC North coaching ranks. We've got one new head coach and four new coordinators. Chicago and Green Bay overhauled their defensive staffs, and even Minnesota suffered a rare staff defection under coach Brad Childress.
As we wrap up the week, now is as good a time as any to take a big-picture look at the changes. Kudos to my NFC West colleague Mike Sando for drawing up the chart below, which I so arrogantly swiped from his blog. A few notes:
- New coaches are bolded.
- An asterisk (*) refers to a coach who has been reported to be in place but not announced by the team.
- Chicago defensive coordinator Bob Babich retained his title but will also handle linebackers. Coach Lovie Smith is expected to call most defensive signals on gameday.
- Quality control coaches are not listed on this chart. Sorry guys.
- Green Bay is splitting its linebackers between Winston Moss (inside) and Kevin Greene (outside).
- The Packers are also splitting defensive backs between Joe Whitt Jr. (cornerbacks) and Darren Perry (safeties)
- Moss, Chicago's Rod Marinelli, Detroit's Gunther Cunningham and Minnesota's Leslie Frazier are also assistant head coaches.
