FavreWatch: A few ginger throws

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Here's your up-to-the-minute update on Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, who is dealing with perhaps the most significant injury he has suffered in his career.

Favre (sprained SC joint) participated in the brief portion of practice open to reporters Friday. But never did I see him throw with anything close to the effort you normally see in practice. He gingerly flipped a few 10-yard passes to teammates during stretching and then took the first four snaps during the walk-through portion of practice. Backup Tarvaris Jackson took over at that point, which coincided with the end of the media's time at practice.

On the first two plays, Favre used his left hand to give the ball to tailback Adrian Peterson. On the second two, he dropped back but did not actually throw the ball.

We'll get more information from coach Leslie Frazier, and perhaps Favre, after practice. I suppose Favre deserves the benefit of the doubt after starting 297 consecutive games, but 48 hours away from Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff, his ability to throw appears very limited. Stay tuned.
