Circling back on 2009 draftees

NFC North teams seem to have settled on their 53-man rosters (at least for this week), providing us the opportunity for an early evaluation of their draft classes. Overall, 25 of 32 Black and Blue draft picks from 2009 made the 53-man roster of their respective teams. Four more are on practice squads and a fifth is on injured reserve. Six are expected to start. Let’s break it all down:

Chicago Bears (Full draft class here)

  • Made team: 6 of 9

  • Other designation: Defensive lineman Henry Melton (No. 4a) on injured reserve.

  • Expected starters: Safety Al Afalava (No. 6)

  • Contributors: Defensive tackle Jarron Gilbert (No. 3a)

Detroit Lions (Full draft class here)

Green Bay Packers (Full draft class here)

  • Made team: 7 of 8

  • Other designation: Offensive lineman Jamon Meredith (No. 5b) on practice squad.

  • Expected starters: None immediately

  • Contributors: Defensive lineman B.J. Raji (No. 1a), linebacker Clay Matthews (No. 1b)
