Another shot at Cowboys Stadium for Suh

I've admitted before that I don't watch a ton of college football. When you cover the NFL, fall Saturdays are typically about travel and football detox.

But I clearly remember watching the Big 12 championship game on Dec. 5, 2009. Like the rest of you, I saw a performance that suggested then-Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh would be a star in the NFL.

AP Photo/Amy GutierrezNdamukong Suh has performed well in games at Cowboys Stadium -- including collecting 4.5 sacks in the 2009 Big 12 championship game.
Suh throttled the Texas offensive line, breaking through for 4.5 sacks and three other tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Nebraska lost that game 13-12 at Cowboys Stadium. Last year, Suh returned to the stadium with the Detroit Lions and absorbed a 35-19 defeat from the Dallas Cowboys. So in two games at Cowboys Stadium, Suh has 20 tackles and five sacks but no victories.

Speaking to Detroit-area reporters this week, Suh made clear he plans to change that final number when the Lions travel to Cowboys Stadium this weekend.

"Yeah, I don't really like that stadium," Suh said. "I'm 0-2 in that stadium. So I plan on going down there this week, kind of my own extra oomph getting after this game. I want to come out a winner at least once in that stadium. I don't know how many times I'll be able to play in that stadium. It's been three straight years; this will be the third straight year -- heartbreaking loss."

For what it's worth, seven of the nine ESPN experts who picked this game went with the Lions. After all, the Lions are 3-0 even with a statistically quiet start from Suh. He has a pair of sacks in three games, tying him for fifth among NFL defensive tackles. It's worth noting, however, that the Lions have the league's third-best pass defense this season based on opponent's 69.1 passer rating. Overall, the Lions are allowing the fourth-fewest passing yards (188.0) per game.
