CHICAGO -- I'm about to point the car north and head to Green Bay for a "Monday Night Football" game I understand has been scheduled at Lambeau Field. So let's flip the switch here in anticipation of the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers matching up for the second time in three games.

Tonight will mark the first "MNF" game for the Packers and Vikings since ESPN parted ways with Hank Williams Jr., and many of you have been asking how the network will handle the opening of the broadcast. As NFC North blog readers know, ESPN produced a rousing open last month featuring Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders for an Oct. 5 between the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions.

Here's what I can tell you, courtesy ESPN communications guru and FOB (friend of the blog) Bill Hofheimer:

Former Wisconsin football player Jake Wood will voice an open that is themed around Veteran's Week, teamwork and leadership. Visuals will include scenes from a Marine reserve group in Oshkosh, Wis.

Upper Midwesterners have probably heard of Wood, 27, an Iowa native who served in Iraq and Afghanistan during a decorated four-year stint in the U.S. Marine Corps. He has since turned his attention to Team Rubicon, which "unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with medical professionals to deploy vanguard teams that bridge the gap in disaster response," according to its website.

If the Sanders open spurred goose bumps last month, I can't wait to see what this one does Monday night.

Much more to come throughout the afternoon.
