MINNEAPOLIS -- Man. What appeared to be a nasty left leg injury for Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher has been initially diagnosed as a sprained MCL in his left knee. Jeff Dickerson of ESPNChicago.com has details.
We all try to avoid being amateur physicians, but all visible indications were that Urlacher had suffered a much worse injury. His left leg bent backwards as he helped break up a pass in the end zone, and he writhed in pain on the field for several moments. But Urlacher suddenly popped up, walked off the field and into the Bears' locker room to undergo preliminary tests.
I would imagine the Bears will conduct further tests either Sunday evening or Monday morning. But if they find nothing else, Urlacher will recover long before the start of the 2012 season. A more significant injury would have threatened his availability for the start of the season, much like the situation the Minnesota Vikings find themselves in with tailback Adrian Peterson, who tore two ligaments in his knee last weekend. Stay tuned.
