Some of you have asked if Minnesota Vikings tailback Adrian Peterson was serious about changing his No. 28 jersey, as he suggested he would via Twitter last week. Apparently the answer was yes -- until Peterson fully understood the NFL policy for changing numbers. The bottom line, it seems, is that No. 28 isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
For reasons that aren't entirely clear, Peterson tweeted Jan. 20 that he thought it was "time to switch it up" and change numbers. Wednesday, Peterson tweeted that he wanted to change to No. 23 but decided against it when he learned that players changing their numbers must buy the remaining inventory of their old jersey numbers available to consumers before making the switch.
According to Peterson, the bill would have been in excess of $1 million.
"You must be smoking something to thing [sic] I'll Waste that type of money just to change a number on my work uniform!"
I'm guessing Peterson wanted to change as part of a new beginning while he rehabilitates from a serious knee injury. Many of you might wonder why it merits mention on the blog. But based on the thousands of "28" Vikings jerseys I see around the country at NFL games, I'm thinking the change would have affected a lot of people. So for now, at least, your jersey is safe and still relevant.
