INDIANAPOLIS -- In 2007, Georgia Tech receiver Calvin Johnson made a last-minute decision to run the 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine. Wearing a pair of borrowed shoes, Johnson in now-legendary fashion reeled off a time of 4.35 that solidified him as one of the top players available in the upcoming draft. The Detroit Lions selected him with the No. 2 overall pick, and in these parts we know the rest of the story.

It appears as though we are in a similar holding pattern with Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon, widely considered to be the draft's top receiver as the combine opens. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports "it doesn't look like" Blackmon will run with the rest of the receivers on Sunday and instead will wait for his March 9 pro day.

Blackmon could, of course, change his mind in Johnson-like fashion. But if he doesn't run, we might not be able to answer fully one of the points we discussed in Wednesday's NFC North combine primer. Does Blackmon have the kind of elite speed that would make him a top-3 pick, and thus a candidate for the Minnesota Vikings' top choice, or will he ultimately prove otherwise? We'll keep you updated. Receivers are scheduled to speak with reporters Friday and work out Sunday.
