That didn’t take long. As it turns out, Green Bay just announced its expected signing of offensive lineman Mark Tauscher. To make room for Tauscher on their roster, the Packers placed Will Blackmon on injured reserve.

As we discussed last week, Tauscher recently completed rehabilitation on his injured left knee. Coach Mike McCarthy said last week that Allen Barbre would remain the starting right tackle, but it’s hard to imagine that Tauscher won’t eventually reclaim the job he held for most of this decade.
Tauscher isn’t a cure-all for the Packers’ problems in pass protection. He’s returning from a serious injury and hasn’t done any football-style conditioning work since December. But if nothing else, the Packers have sent an effective message that they won’t stand pat indefinitely after allowing 20 sacks during the first four games of the season.
