Cherilus moving up in Detroit

Make sure you check Birk's Eye View, where Oakland Press reporter Dave Birkett strongly suggests the Detroit Lions will move first-round draft pick Gosder Cherilus into the starting lineup Sunday at San Francisco.

Coach Rod Marinelli didn't confirm anything, but the former starter at right tackle -- veteran George Foster -- made it sound like a decision has been made. Cherilus took the first reps of each period at Wednesday's practice, enough to convince Foster that he's cooked as the starter.

"I'm not super-duper surprised," Foster said. "Most teams, 95 percent of the teams are not going to sit a first-rounder for the whole year. I was just hoping to hold off way longer than this."

Cherilus was well-regarded entering the draft, and at 0-2, the Lions should do everything they can to get their most talented players on the field.
