Just making sure you caught Chris Mortensen’s ESPN report on Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford. The gist is that Stafford’s right knee swelled in practice last Wednesday, causing enough concern that the Lions will have Dr. James Andrews take a second look at the MRI of what was originally diagnosed as a dislocated knee cap.

If surgery is required to tighten the joint, Stafford’s availability for the season will be in doubt. But if Andrews determines that Stafford’s recovery is on track, he could return in two weeks after the Lions’ bye.

The Lions have been extremely tight-lipped about all injuries, so it’s not clear when or how we’ll find out Andrews’ findings. But it’s clear we’ve reached a pivotal moment of Stafford’s rookie year.
