The Minnesota Vikings are crossing their collective fingers that their best player will be available Sunday against Carolina.

Tailback Adrian Peterson returned to practice Friday on a limited basis after sitting out Thursday because of a sore hamstring. Coach Brad Childress listed him as questionable on the injury report Friday and said he will make a final decision Sunday morning.

Peterson has said he plans to play, and Childress told reporters in Minnesota that "you always listen to the player." On the other hand, Childress said: "Sometimes you have to protect the player from himself."

Chester Taylor would start in Peterson's place Sunday and will probably see extended playing time regardless.

The "questionable" designation technically means a player has a 50 percent chance of playing. If we had to guess, we'd say Peterson will at least try to play Sunday. His presence could be the difference between 1-2 and 0-3 for the Vikings.
