PITTSBURGH -- Two important injury nuggets after Minnesota’s 27-17 loss at Pittsburgh:
- If cornerback Antoine Winfield has a fractured right foot, as reported Sunday by the St. Paul Pioneer Press, no one will say it on the record. After the game, Winfield insisted he does not have a fracture. “It’s a sprain,” Winfield said. Coach Brad Childress would not confirm that Winfield has a fracture. “I’m not going there,” he said. Regardless of the exact nature of the injury, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported Sunday that Winfield could miss up to six weeks. It’s just a guess, but it would make sense for Winfield to be sidelined at least through the Vikings’ Nov. 8 bye.
- Receiver Bernard Berrian did not return after suffering a leg injury in the first half. With his left leg wrapped after the game, Berrian would not discuss the nature of his condition. But Berrian did point out that it he injured his right -- not his left -- hamstring during the preseason. So at least we know this is a new injury.
