Morning Roar: More Patrick Edwards talk

August, 28, 2013
Good morning and ROARRRRRRRR!

At least one guy hasn't given up on Patrick Edwards, the Detroit Lions' buzz-worthy young receiver who hasn't exactly lit up the stat line in the preseason. Veteran Nate Burleson, whose strong comments jump-started the Edwards Express earlier this year, has doubled down on his thoughts.

Burleson told reporters this week that he would challenge any NFL defensive back to cover Edwards one-on-one because of his speed. Via Justin Rogers of, he added: "Pat is primed to be a star number two receiver in this league, right now. Not only was his résumé strong from college, but I saw something on the field that a lot of guys don't have. That's great speed, good hands and he's a really strong route runner."

Edwards has caught four passes for 16 yards in extensive preseason playing time, but he was open for an 18-yard touchdown last week against the New England Patriots. Quarterback Matthew Stafford overthrew him on the play.
