The Detroit Lions announced their inactive players for the preseason finale against Buffalo Thursday night, and most of the veteran starters won't play for the Lions, according to the team.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford, running back Reggie Bush, wide receivers Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate, tight end Brandon Pettigrew, left guard Rob Sims, center Dominic Raiola, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, defensive end Jason Jones, cornerback Rashean Mathis and safety James Ihedigbo will all miss the game.

At receiver, Kevin Ogletree and Kris Durham -- two receivers fighting for roster spots -- will start. Interestingly, Garrett Reynolds and not Rodney Austin will start at left guard, perhaps signifying he has passed Austin in a backup lineman race. Travis Swanson will start at center and Joseph Fauria will start in place of Pettigrew.

Nick Fairley will start for Suh and Devin Taylor for Jones. Bill Bentley will start for Mathis and, like last week, Isa Abdul-Quddus will start for Ihedigbo.

Tahir Whitehead is also picking up his second straight start at SAM linebacker.
