Minnesota fans might want to check out this post from NFC East colleague Matt Mosley, who published a partial transcript of an interview with New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.
Among other things, Spagnuolo openly discussed the 2006 offseason -- when new Vikings coach Brad Childress wanted to hire him as his first defensive coordinator in Minnesota. Spagnuolo was reported to be Childress' first choice at the time, but this interview is the first time I've seen that desire publicly confirmed.
Eagles coach Andy Reid would not release Spagnuolo from his contract, and Childress went on to hire Tampa Bay secondary coach Mike Tomlin. You can't argue with that hire or with that of Tomlin's successor, Leslie Frazier. But it's interesting to note that if Childress had his druthers, neither Tomlin nor Frazier would have made it to Minnesota.
