Black and Blue all over: DeVries to re-sign

By Kevin Seifert

Teams often say they would consider bringing back a player they've released, and in the case of Detroit and defensive end Jared DeVries, it's actually true.

We open this week with the news that DeVries will sign a one-year contract Monday, according to multiple reports. The Lions had released him in late February to avoid paying a $400,000 roster bonus while he rehabilitates a torn Achilles tendon. But his recovery has apparently progressed to the point to where they're ready to give him a chance to participate in their offseason program.

There's little risk in this move. John Niyo of the Detroit News reports DeVries will need to make the team in order to get back the $400,000. That's a fair arrangement for a 33-year-old veteran returning from a major injury.
